In 2003 we launched the first online data warehouse and mapping service, InfoOakland. That site was greeted with great enthusiasm and those outside of Oakland encouraged us to expand the idea to their cities. Through our own work in community building, we already recognized that many of the issues we were trying to address at the neighborhood level were influence by regional factors and, often needed to be addressed as a regional level. Shortly after the launch of InfoOakland, we began to revise the vision to a Bay Area l data warehouse connecting nine county warehouses. InfoAlamedaCounty is our next step in building to that vision. InfoAlamedaCounty strives to promote equity and empowerment of residents and organizations in low-income neighborhoods and communities of color in the Bay Area through increased access to good data, assistance in gathering and analyzing data, and collaboration in using data as a tool for organizing and positive social change. InfoBayArea will be built through development of collaborative efforts in each county to develop information resources for community revitalization in low-income neighborhoods. Our goal is to democratize data, enabling residents to access and use the information that underlies policy and decision-making. We strive to extend the power of digital technology to people who are least likely to already have it, including low-income residents, limited English speakers, youth, and people with disabilities. Our projects seek to engender informed activism in Bay Area neighborhoods. Through our online resources, trainings, and direct data support we help committed people and organizations work more effectively for community improvement. As a collaborative, InfoAlamedaCounty brings together nonprofit organizations public agencies, higher education institutions and other entities dedicated to our common mission. InfoAlamedaCounty is the first of the nine county data warehouses we hope to build. Currently, InfoAlameda contains county information from the 200 Census, Data on birth outcome and Asthma from the California Environmental Health Tracking Project, Home Mortgage Disclosure data from HUD and information on schools, toxic release sites, highway traffic volume and other information about the county. The data can be viewed in tables and maps by cities, zip codes and census tracks. InfoAlameda also has a query capacity permitting the user to look at up to three pieces of information at the same time. Get Involved Urban Strategies Council will be building a collaborative to support and build out InfoAlameda County and InfoBayArea Soon you will be able to sign up though this website to be a member of InfoAlameda. As a member you will have special access to our online resources and always be in loop as we release new data, update the site, and hold free trainings throughout Alameda County communities. We are always working to improve what we do. Please, give us feedback on this site. Send an email to feedback at InfoAlamedaCounty.org with your suggestions. Host a Data for Change training in your neighborhood or at your organization. To learn more, see our trainings page or contact us. InfoAlameda contact information is at the bottom of this Web page.
